Thank YOU Safos fans!!

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who came out to see Dancing the Mural March 27+28, 2015!

We were proud to share with you that the unveiling of Color the Mural!  and the performance of Dancing the Mural was a success!

Color the Mural included 264 community voters, 290 community painters, and over 30 visual and performing artists, arts administrators, community members, donors, and volunteers.  The Dancing the Mural performance featured seven pieces  of choreography based on the images in the mural that the community voted on and painted. The show featured Tucson-based dancers, choreographers, and musicians , as well as six guest artists from California. We were also excited to present community members, both youth and seniors from South Tucson on the stage with professional artists. It was very important that members of the South Tucson Community were included in every stage of the "Color the Mural" project, from voting on the mural desing, painting the mural, and taking the stage for the unveiling and performance.

"Dancing the Mural" was a HUGE success!! We had the largest audience for a performance in South Tucson to date! Here are some of the things audience members had to say:

"What I liked most about the show was how Safos honors the community."

"We were all impressed with the professionalism and the talented performers."

“This project is the best example of a neighborhood working as one that I’ve ever seen. The idea of painting a mural to honor and remember people, places, and events is a most beautiful thing; and then, to take it further to DANCE IT is a wonderfully unique idea.”

Thank you to all the community members who painted the mural! We had a great time creating art at community events such as the Spring Cyclovia 2014 and South Tucson’s National Night Out. We also enjoyed getting to know South Tucson community groups who painted the mural, the John Valenzuela Youth Center, Mission View Elementary Student Council, Our Family Services “La Escuelita” youth program, Our Family Services “Las Comadritas” senior program, and Corazo/n de Tucson, over the past two years. It was an honor to create art with you! And thank you to all the youth and community members who painted the mural at Safos events, the “Color the Mural: Summer Art Camp” and at the Tequila and Art Party.

Thank YOU to all the volunteers, donors, visual artists, performing artists, community members, and community mural painters that made this all possible! We could not have done it without you! You rock!!
